Kuopio women’s volleyball team to compete in Europe as Gebwell Puijo Wolley

Long-standing partner Gebwell Oy is supporting Puijo Wolley’s first international matches and is featured in the team’s name. The European matches kick off at the ISLVI Arena on Wednesday 25 November, when top Polish side BKS ZGO Bielsko-Biała come to town.

“We’ve been on board with Puijo Wolley for several years now, so it feels particularly great to see the team on the European stage for the first time. And of course, it also feels a bit special that the team is playing under the name Gebwell Puijo Wolley,” says Gebwell Oy’s Chief Commercial Officer Seppo Hakanen.

Puijo’s opponent in the CEV Cup, Bielsko-Biała, is an interesting prospect, as the team features Estonian players – spiker Kertu Laak and all-rounder Kristiine Miilen – who are already familiar names to Finnish fans. Both play for the Estonian national team, coached by Puijo’s Pekka Seppänen and Timo Leikka. Furthermore, Laak is remembered from her time with LP Viesti and Miilen from Woman Volley in the domestic Championship League.

The teams will face off at the ISLVI Arena in Kuopio on 25 November at 18:00, with the second leg taking place in Bielsko-Biała in southern Poland on 3 December at 18:00.

What is Gebwell?

Gebwell Oy is an international company founded in 2005 that specialises in heating and cooling solutions. The company is headquartered in Leppävirta but operates internationally.

Continuing the partnership for the Eurocup matches was a fairly straightforward decision for both Gebwell and Puijo.

“We appreciate what Puijo Wolley has achieved and the determined effort that has taken the team to this point. It’s great to be involved in supporting a story like this. In a way, there are also many parallels with Gebwell’s own story: we’re making our mark from Savo and setting our sights on Europe,” Hakanen continues.

Puijo Wolley’s manager, Heikki Luomi, is also pleased with the agreement.

“I’m grateful to Gebwell for getting on board so enthusiastically for the team’s first European matches. This partnership provides us with a great foundation for our trip to Poland.”

A connection to Poland

Another interesting point is that Gebwell has a subsidiary in Poland. The company regards internationalisation as a key part of its growth.

“Above all, we wish the team the best of luck on their journey. Qualifying for European competition is a great achievement in itself. Here at Gebwell, we’ll be proudly watching as this team from Savo sets out to take on Europe’s top teams,” concludes Hakanen.
