Gebwell takes responsibility

We are a family-run business founded in 2006, with a core focus on developing clean and smart heating and cooling solutions to meet the challenges of the future. We recognise that our impact is far-reaching, and we strive to be a positive force in society and the environment. For us, this means respecting our environment, looking after our people and acting ethically in all our business dealings.

We are known as a company whose heat pump and district heating products can be enjoyed with a clear conscience. Our heat pumps, tested in Finland’s demanding climate conditions, utilise energy from the ground or waste heat from buildings and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by transferring heat back into the building for heating, rather than generating energy using fossil fuels. All our products are designed and manufactured in Leppävirta, and we use components manufactured in Europe.

Developing sustainable solutions would be impossible without a committed and thriving workforce, and our people are at the heart of our company. We look after our employees, and this is reflected in safe and healthy working conditions and equal opportunities. We also respect all our customers and partners, and conduct all our relationships openly, honestly and fairly.

We monitor our sustainability efforts and their impact annually through international assessments. For example, EcoVadis and CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) provide us with tools to assess our environmental impact, social responsibility and ethical practices. Furthermore, we are committed to the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – we actively strive for a more sustainable future and focus in particular on the Agenda’s goals relating to environmental responsibility, social responsibility, and economic and ethical responsibility.

We are constantly developing new innovations that enable the transition to cleaner forms of energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. We are committed to providing our customers with energy-efficient products and solutions that support a more sustainable future.

It is important to us that our production processes and operations comply with the principles of sustainable development. We constantly strive to reduce waste and optimise the use of materials across all areas of our business. Together with our partners we promote circular economy and the development of long-lasting products.

Combating climate change is at the heart of our operations. We are constantly working to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. We actively participate in climate initiatives and develop technologies that help both us and our customers to reduce our carbon footprint.

Refrigerant and emissions

Sustainable heating

Ground-source heat pumps are, by their very nature, an environmentally friendly choice, as they utilise renewable solar energy stored in the ground and operate with extremely high efficiency. In addition to energy from the ground, they can also utilise waste heat from buildings and industrial processes, making use of energy that would otherwise go to waste. We are constantly developing our products to ensure a cleaner future. In fact, we are the first manufacturer to phase out synthetic refrigerants ahead of schedule and launch an entire product range, the G-Eco family, that uses the natural refrigerant R290. The Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the refrigerant used in these ground-source heat pumps, which meet the demands of tomorrow, is just 0.02 – a hundred thousand times lower than that of the commonly used R410A refrigerant. It also contains no PFAS substances – the so-called ‘forever chemicals’ that do not break down in the environment.

It is worth taking the refrigerant’s climate impact into account as early as the design and tendering stages of a project: our G-Eco pumps offer excellent performance with low environmental impact. It is a choice that supports sustainable development and meets increasingly stringent environmental requirements.

Heat pumps

Environmental responsibility in practice

The equipment we manufacture – district heating distribution centres and heat pumps – are a vital part of the green transition in building heating. They play their part in providing a solution to preserve a clean environment for future generations too. Heat pumps can replace the heating of buildings using fossil fuels such as oil or gas, which cause greenhouse gas emissions.

Our environmental responsibility extends to all our operations, from energy use to waste management. We invest in sustainable materials and low-emission production methods, and our environmental management system has been awarded ISO 14001:2015 certification.

As a demonstration of our commitment to transparent environmental impact reporting, we have drawn up EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for the Taurus EVI and Taurus Inverter Pro heat pumps, as well as, most recently, for the G-Eco Core 40 heat pump and the G-Energy Coil storage tank.

An EPD details a product’s environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle, from raw materials to recycling. It is verified by a third party, based on a life-cycle assessment, and assists designers and procurement specialists when comparing product information against their own requirements.

The EPD project is ongoing, and new environmental product declarations are being drawn up in stages for our other products as well.

Transparent and open operations

We conduct our business in a transparent and ethical manner. We focus on long-term, sustainable growth that benefits both us and society at large. We oppose corruption in all its forms and always act in accordance with laws and regulations. We believe that honest and open conduct builds trust and fosters lasting relationships.

We have drawn up a code of ethics which all the company’s employees are required to follow. We expect our business partners, suppliers and customers to adhere to the same principles. The Code of Conduct sets out the rules governing business operations, human rights, working conditions, the environment and fair competition. It prohibits corruption, extortion and bribery. We do not offer or accept gifts, favours or benefits if they can reasonably be expected to influence decision-making or if they exceed normal entertainment expenses. We do not condone, promote or support money laundering, and we only conduct business with reputable parties who operate lawfully and whose funds come from legitimate sources.

Any potential misconduct or incidents of concern can be reported anonymously via the whistleblowing channel.
