District cooling

District cooling is a comfortable, safe and environmentally friendly way of cooling properties, using cold water circulated in a district cooling network in a similar way to district heating.

District cooling is available primarily in Finland’s largest cities, where a district cooling network already exists. It is a low-maintenance and reliable form of cooling: the district cooling substation requires little space and produces no noise, and there is no need for the property owner to maintain any cooling equipment of their own.

Economical and environmentally friendly cooling

District cooling is often produced using waste heat, natural cold (e.g. sea water) and free cooling, which makes it an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient way of cooling buildings compared to conventional, electricity-consuming cooling systems.

Connecting a property to the district cooling network removes the need for the property’s own cooling machinery, freeing up technical space and reducing both investment and maintenance costs over the property’s lifecycle.
